Grace J Kim (she/her) is an aspiring screenwriter, author ,and poet based in Los Angeles, California, where she also attends high school as a 9th grader.
Grace's main theme in writing is based on empathy: the act of understanding and communicating among people. This stems from her exposure to diverse cultures and people throughout her life. As well as her interest in emotions and its effects on people.
Grace’s first script, Vita, was nominated as the best short script by several prominent film festivals such as the Santa Monica Shorts, the Las Vegas Asian Film Festival, etc. It is a hidden tragedy between a child and her mother. Her first novel, Rent-A-Hero, pending publication, is about the communication between two different boys: abled and disabled. She is also writing a series of Sci-fi novels, Sabyeol, a young boy's journey to find treasure in a faraway planet.
In addition, based on her love for latin and poetry, she translated Latin poems from the Roman poet Catullus and published her first ebook titled: 'The Little Latin Book for Poets."
As a young writer, Grace actively participates in writing workshops. She was invited by many nationally prestigious creative writing programs such as "A Perusable Feast" from Iowa Young Writers' Studio, the Common Amherst College, and the Juniper Umass. She is an editor of her school's literary magazine, Tenth Muse and a mentee at the writing club, WriteGirl.
As a screen writer and an author, Grace has contributed to communities in LA . Recently she initiated the Kfam Awareness project. She organized a team to create short films to bring awareness to the foster families in Southern California. She also publishes her own ebooks and records them with her voice to reach out children in Tanzania, Egypt, and Kenya through the Voice of Books project. These projects are based on her belief that stories can connect children to the world.
